The Lightstores HTA Glow Stick Cold Weather Arctic Grade is the specialized low-temperature formulation within the HTA product line — developed specifically for applications in arctic, alpine, and cold-storage environments where standard chemiluminescent formulations perform unreliably due to the temperature-dependent viscosity increase that slows the oxidation reaction and dramatically reduces light output below approximately minus 10 degrees Celsius. The standard chemiluminescent reaction depends on the diphenyl oxalate ester and hydrogen peroxide carrier fluids remaining sufficiently mobile at activation temperature to mix effectively when the ampoule is snapped — a requirement that breaks down as temperature drops and the carrier fluids approach their viscous limit. The HTA arctic formulation addresses this by substituting a lower-viscosity carrier fluid system that maintains adequate reaction mobility at temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius, producing reliable activation and measurable light output across the full arctic temperature range where standard products produce a partial or failed activation. The cold-flex ABS casing compound used in the arctic format maintains sufficient flexibility at minus 30 degrees Celsius to allow the snap-activation mechanism to function correctly without the casing fracturing at the ampoule contact point — the failure mode that prevents activation in standard rigid ABS casings in extreme cold. The 8-hour rated runtime is established at a reference temperature of minus 20 degrees Celsius — actual runtime will extend at warmer temperatures and may be reduced at the extreme lower end of the rated range as the reaction rate slows with decreasing temperature.
